Condition monitoring of manual valves.

For safety reasons, ball valves in chemical process engineering are monitored by the control room for their function and the condition of the switching positions, especially when used in expanding media.

The manually operated flanged ball valves type INTEC K200-S-FS-DEB/11 in nominal size DN40 and pressure rating PN40, material stainless steel, overall length R1, with stem extension and color-marked (RAL 4006) hand lever with attached mechanical limit switches from Schmersal are used.

In addition to the Fire-Safe design, this construction has a centric pressure relief bore (DEB) on the upstream side. This guarantees pressure equalization and prevents a possible malfunction. Furthermore, the ball valve has been equipped with end position feedback respectively position switch with safety function. This is a snap-action switch with constant contact force up to the switching point, which was mounted on the stem extension of the INTEC 11 by means of a custom-made carrier plate.

By using mechanical limit switches, processes can be monitored and controlled, and reliable operation can be guaranteed. In times of increasing automation, they are thus indispensable for occupational safety. The advantages of mechanical limit switches are their high reliability and insensitivity in harsh environments (e.g. vibrations, shock loads, rapid temperature fluctuations and heavy contamination).
